What a night!

Phewwwwwwwwwww!

We sat around with nothing on trying to keep cool. The poor dogs were so hot I threw water on them.
Eventually we went to sleep.
We spent a shocking night. With the generator going we can run our fan in the caravan but it only scratched the surface trying to keep us cool.

Not only was it hot, but there were midgies, so I packed up early and we headed for St George.
The breeze coming in the window was delicious at that time of the day. But not for long!

We had planned going to Lightning Ridge but when we refuelled in St George, which was around 8.30am, we heard it was already over 47C there.
That was just too much, so we changed our plans and decided to head towards the east, hoping to get away from the extreme heat
.
I rang the Narrabri Showgrounds and booked in. He told us it was no better there but at least we'd have hot and cold showers and we could get cold drinks.

So, we headed for Moree.

Just out of
St George we saw GREEN again. It was cotton.
Even that small amount of green was really welcome in the hot wind as we drove on.

Beside the road we saw this roadside stall and pulled in to grab a watermelon.

We ground on in the heat. Dry settlements came and went.
Nindigully, Thallon and South Tallwood. I wondered how people survived in such dry areas.

At Mungindi we stopped for a break and bought some more cold drinks and a few sandwiches.
The air conditioned shop was heaven, but we had to get back to the poor dogs to make sure they were cool too.

Judy slept as I drove on through new areas to me, Garah and Ashley. Eventually at Moree I was back to familiar territory.
The road south through Gurley, Bellata and Edgeroi to Narrabri was easy driving other than putting up with the odd "cowboy" truck driver harassing me.
The Newell Highway, which is what I was driving on, is packed with various trucks, most in a great hurry to get to their destinations. Occasionally one gets really impatient having to follow a caravan and "pushes" you by following so close that all you see in the rear vision is his "bullbar". It's times like those that I start wondering if towing a Caravan is such a great idea. Luckily most truck drivers are really good.

Finally we pulled into the Narrabri Showgrounds, booked in, and set up camp.
