Friederich Christian Ferdinand ("Fred") SCHLOSS

He was known as "Fred".
Fred had a farm and creamery at Hatton Vale. Later, he moved to Lockro se on a heavily timbered property where he set up a sawmill. First h e used a suction gas engine which was not a success, so he changed it f oe a steam engine.


Schloss's moved up to Yarraman in 1939. It took them overnight t o come up the Blackbutt Range.
The Rugby ute broke down and they needed daylight to see the p roblem and get it fixed.
They had five children and Eric was a few months old.
- In 1939 Herb and some helpers tried to walk the draught and sad dle horses up to Yarraman
from Dayboro. At Toogoolawah the horses became lame and h ad to be loaded on a train
for the rest of the journey.

Herb remarried a widow who had eight older children. The children had l eft home prior to this marriage
