John FULLER

John sailed to N.Z. and landed in Wellington in 1858 and for some time was
occupied in the cartage of general goods over the Rimutaka ranges between
Wellington and the Wairarapa.He later took over the Rising Sun hotel in
Greytown, this was the principal hostelry in the area in those days and he
stayed there for ten years.Subsequently he started up as a brewer and soft
drink maker, he gave up brewing after fourteen years but retained the other
branch of the business. He was treasurer of the local Forresters Lodge and a
member of the Oddfellows Society.

His other interests were as a member of the committee of the Greytown
Workingmen's Club and as a director of the Permanent Investment and Loan
Association of the Wairarapa.
